If Council of State had taken their job in advising corrupt Akufo-Addo seriously, we would not be in an economic mess- NDC MP

August 30, 2022

Dr. Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, has slammed the Council of State, questioning why they are now interested in the state of Ghana’s economy.

According to the MP, if the Council had taken their job of advising the president seriously, we would not be in the current economic crisis.

In an interview with the media, Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Chairman of the Council, stated that members were concerned about the state of the economy.

He made the comments after Finance Ministry and Bank of Ghana officials briefed them on the underlying factors causing Ghana’s economic woes.

“We are disturbed as every other Ghanaian over the state of the economy, particularly the free fall of the cedi relative to other major currencies.

“So, we can’t just sleep, we are the advisors of the government, we need to be informed, so as to proffer the requisite advice and solutions to the government,” he stressed.

He revealed that, while no resolutions were passed midway through the meeting, the Council heard the underlying causes of the economic downturn, as well as short, medium, and long-term solutions and suggestions.

“We are not (happy with the economy), that is why we met them and we have been assured that things would get better because there are a lot of expectations on the horizon regarding inflows of foreign exchange to shore up our liquidity and enable the BoG to give more dollars to stabilize the cedi,” he added.

But, in response, Dr. Apaak wonders if we arrived here overnight and why the Council has suddenly awoken from their slumber.

He noted that the crisis began long ago, yet the Council said nothing and is now commenting on the economic situation.

He described it as a big joke and asked the Council to tell the marines about it.

We would not be where we are today, he believes, if the Council had advised the president against what he called corruption, family and friends government, disregard for procedures and the law, compromised public and state institutions, and reckless economic management.

Read his fullstatement below

Folks, the Council of State is not disturbed by:

1) The unbridled and barefaced corruption;
2) The family and friends loot and share of state resources;
3) The blatant disregard for procedures, the lawlessness and impunity;
4) The compromised state and public institutions; and;
5) The gross and reckless mismanagement of the national economy under the NADAA/NPP government.

Yeah right, the Council of State suddenly wokeup and is disturbed by the state of the economy? Did we get to this crisis point overnight, did we?

If the Council of State had taken it’s job seriously, by advising NADAA, against the above, we may not be experiencing the current debilitating and excruciating hardship.

Disturbed by the current state of the economy? Big joke, tell this to the marines. My regards to Council of State member and owner of the Labianca company!
