Paying for Self-Service App is illegal, don’t pay- Minority to Ghanaians

September 10, 2022

The Minority in Parliament has asked Ghanaians not to pay the SIM re-registration fee via the Self-Service Application (App).

Although the government told Ghanaians that the app provides another way for telecom subscribers to complete their SIM card re-registration using the Ghana Card for a GH 5 fee, the Minority says it is illegal.

In a press conference, Sagnarigu Member of Parliament (MP), Alhassan Bashir Fuseini, who also serves as the Ranking Member of the Communications Committee, asked Communications Minister, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, to ensure the National Communications Authority (NCA) halts the charges as soon as possible.

Deputy Ranking Member and Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George, for his part, claimed that the minister refused to accept suggestions on how to improve the re-registration process.

“The Minister is quick to enforce sanctions on Ghanaians by deadlines but the Minister herself failed to meet the August 2 deadline for the roll-out of the App by 24 days.

“Today is 9th September and the App is still not on the Apple store meaning if you use an apple product, you cannot download it,” he said.
