We endorse the call on gov’t to ban small-scale mining- GPCC

The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has backed suggestions for the government to ban small-scale mining activities in the face of the fight against illegal mining.

GPCC believes the ban would go a long way to help in the fight against galamsey.

Prof. Frimpong Manso, President of the GPCC, argued that illegal mining is now a national crisis that must be combated without regard for politics.

He said although small-scale miners may be operating with licenses, there is the possibility that some of them have taken advantage of their licenses to engage in illegal mining activities.

”We should stop making the issue of galamsey NDC and NPP issue. This is a national disaster, a national catastrophe, and we must deal with it collectively”.

”We support the call for the ban on small-scale mining. Some could apply for the license and use it for illegal mining while in the field working. The policies are there. The institutions are there, but they are not strong enough. We have to resource the institutions of state so they would work to deal with the galamsey menace,” he said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
