Prez has been embarrassed by Majority’s call to sack Oforir-Atta but it is good for our democracy- Expert

October 26, 2022

Sustainable development expert Michael Ebo Amoah says the demand for the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta as Finance by some 80 MPs on the side of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) shows that all was not well in the government.

He posited that the claims by the MPs that they were unable to receive any favourable response from the president and subsequent press conference show there is uneasiness in the government.

Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline, he said that if some people do not have access to the president and use the media to criticize their own government, it indicates that all is not well, but it also deepens democracy.

“As a country, we should not have gotten to this point if certain decisions had been made. We would not have arrived at this point if certain voices had been heard earlier. This is embarrassing.”

“To some extent, what happened was beneficial to our democracy. It has embarrassed the government, particularly the Parliamentary majority. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu should have handled this. I know he did something, but whether the government listens to him is another question.

This would encourage others to come out and speak out against the challenges that this administration and the party are facing at the national, regional, and local levels. Members of the NDC and NPP are not the only ones who go to the market. The country’s economic impact does not affect only one party.”
