Ghanaians Against Galamsey in the United Kingdom have scheduled a protest for November 18, 2022.
The aggrieved Ghanaians claim that illegal mining activities endanger their survival.
Leader of the group, Mr. Ntem Afriyie speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, noted that they would not sit unconcerned and allow illegal mining to threaten the existence of Ghanaians.
He said not every Ghanaian can import water if we get to the point where the water becomes scarce in the country.
He explained to host Kwabena Agyapong that they did not want to return home and were having difficulty finding somewhere to drink, which led to their decision.
He urged Ghanaians to inform their relatives in the United Kingdom about the demonstration.
“We have decided to stage the demonstration to express our concern about illegal mining,” he said. Galamsey has destroyed water bodies and endangers human safety. Because not every Ghanaian can import water and drink, we must demonstrate. We will return home, and it would be unfortunate if we were unable to obtain water to drink.”
The demonstrators would submit a petition to the Ghanaian Embassy, the UK Parliament, the United Nations and King Charles on November 18, 2022.
