A Ghanaian economist and lecturer Dr. Samson Anomah says no matter the interpretation given the ‘sika pe dede’ comments by President Akufo-Addo, it is a basic truth and economic principle.
The lecturer stated that one of the basic principles of money management is that it does not ‘like noise’.
He asserted that the President did no wrong in making such a pronouncement.
In an interview on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said it is important for people to say good things about their economy to woo investors to invest in the economy.
“Even as individuals when you go about making noise about your wealth, armed robbers and other bad individuals could rob you of your money. And so, as a country, the noise we made about the depreciation of the cedi was troubling. Some even described the cedi as the worst currency. I was shocked. Saying the worst performing currency is objective but to say the worst currency was terrible.
We need to be conscious of what we say about our currency. People are watching and listening and such comments could discourage them. We have a responsibility to be candid and know what we say about our economy. The speculations and rumours are nation-wrecking. Whatever the President said was the truth and there was nothing bad about it. The more good things you say about yourself, the more positive things you attract.
He added that the address by the president on the state of the economy provided hope and showed that, the government was prepared to do more to restore hope.
The address he said came at the right time because the people were going through difficulties and as the leader, it was important for him to speak.
He said the admission by the President that the economy was in crisis was something admirable.
He maintained the economic crisis was not a problem limited to Ghana but global.
