Tachie Antiedu, a private legal practitioner, has reacted to the alleged murder of Perpetual Didier’s brother by a police officer.

According to the author, the alleged killing caused by police brutality provides an opportunity to begin prosecuting officers for such crimes.

Lawyer Antiedu believes the situation will continue until police officers are prosecuted for using unreasonable force in the performance of their duties.

He has also emphasized the importance of the country instituting specific crimes in cases of police brutality.

He was responding to the musician’s claims that his brother was tased to death by police at the West Hills Mall after refusing to hand over his bag as the officer requested for a search.

The musician explained that her brother had told the police to bring him to the station for questioning if he had done anything wrong and that he was unwilling to hand over his bag because it contained money and that he had no idea they could plant drugs in it.

The police have since launched an investigation into the incident.

Lawyer Antiedu in his brief comments said
“It appears to me that until we start prosecuting Police Officers found to have used unreasonable force in the discharge of their duties, there will be no end to Police brutality in Ghana. We further need to introduce specific crimes in respect of Police brutality cases.”
