On Monday, February 13, 2023, the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Hon. Dorcas Affo Toffey, donated over two thousand (2,000) boxes of various medicines to the Jomoro Municipal Health Directorate.
The donation is part of the MPs’ overall contribution to improving healthcare delivery in the area.
According to the MP, the health of her constituents has always been a priority for her, hence the donation.
Quoting the famous Mahatma Gandhi she said “It is health that is the real wealth, and not pieces of gold and silver”.
The MP stated during a brief ceremony to hand over the medical supplies to the directorate that some of the items were basic items that the various health facilities should have but do not.
According to her, she recently organized a health screening for her constituents and requested thermometers, examination beds, and blood pressure machines, among other things, from the health directorate, but they did not have any of them.
The situation she bemoaned was unfortunate and posed a threat to the delivery of comprehensive healthcare.
She has promised to provide more assistance to the directorate to ensure that people receive the best possible healthcare.
Aside from the ones she donated, she revealed that she had other medical logistics shipped to be delivered.
She is also currently building three CHPS Compounds, which are nearly finished and will be ready for use soon.
“These are the items that have arrived for the time being. More are on the way. We are working hard to solve several problems. Some basic things aren’t medications, and I’ve managed to get some for the directorate. Three CHPS compounds are being built. I want to solve as many problems and challenges as possible. I’ve decided to focus my efforts on healthcare issues. Health is extremely important.”
She also took advantage of the opportunity to visit some medical facilities and interact with staff and patients.
“I am deeply grateful to the municipal health director, Nananom, the media, and everyone who contributed in various ways to making the program remarkable.”
Gabriel Yengliereh, Municipal Health Director, thanked the MP for her thoughtful gesture.
One of the difficulties he identified for the directorate was a lack of basic equipment with which to work.
He mentioned weighing scales, blood pressure monitors, and thermometers as examples of basic equipment lacking in various health facilities.
He stated that several CHPS compounds lack these basic items, and the MP has promised to provide them with these items.
