Residents of Tweako 1, Tweako 2, Bentilbo, Kwaw-Grumah, and Navrongo in the Western Region’s Jomoro District have complained about the state of their roads.
The residents, who are mostly cocoa farmers, claim that the poor condition of the roads makes it difficult for them to access healthcare and conduct business.
Pregnant women and critically ill people, according to them, are the most affected.
When the MP for the area, Madam Dorcas Afo Toffey, toured the area to assess the situation, the residents spoke out about their plight.
The 17-kilometer road connects these communities to towns and villages, but the deplorable weather has forced most activities to halt. Due to the nature of the road, students had to trek on this 17-kilometer road to and from school, and farm produce was stuck in the bushes because the okada, pragia (tricycle), and vehicles that were supposed to transport them refused to ply on the road.
Residents praised the MP for promising to reshape the road for them. They explained that when the road is reshaped, okaka and other vehicles will be able to use it to make a better living.
”The issue os painful. We have voted for this current government, but they have failed to repair our roads. Several persons have died due to the nature of our roads. We carry pregnant women to the hospital because the road is unmotorable,” one of the farmers said.
“Our situation here is terrible,” said another. We were told that the contract to repair the roads had been awarded. But this has not occurred. We appreciate the MP’s pledge to fix the roads despite the fact that her party is not in power.”
“A political party is not an inheritance, but whoever helps me is the one I will follow. We would be grateful if the MP could repair the roads for us. We have not been given a fair share of the national cake. We are always deceived, but nothing has changed. “I am delighted that a woman has pledged to assist us, and we are grateful for her assistance,” said another farmer.
