Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament Isaac Adongo has asked Finance Minster Kem Ofor-Atta to resign today, Thursday February 16, 2023.
The lawmaker asked the Minister to resign through a public announcement when he appeared before the House to brief them on the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
Mr. Adongo was commenting after the Minister had addressed the House.
The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, confirmed that all pensioners who failed to tender their old bonds for new ones under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) have been exempted from the programme.
“Government remains committed to the wellbeing of our senior citizens. It has caused me great distress that a number of them have picketed at the premises of the Finance Ministry since Monday, I have said that government will honour their coupons…all pensioners who didn’t participate in the debt exchange are exempted.”
Adongo stated that the Minister cannot be quoting the Bible after destroying Ghanaians’ livelihoods.
He noted that it would be difficult for the Minister, who is not paid, to resign from a job that he had failed to complete.
”There must be consequences, people cannot destroy our livelihoods, people cannot ruin us, and when we ask you to leave, they say they won’t move. A job we are not paying you, you are not ready to resign…I want to call on Finance to resign today through a public announcement here. Resign! You cannot be proud of his achievements.”
