Ghana’s Wheelchair Tennis team revealed that they competed in the African games in Nigeria despite having limited resources.
According to the participants, their counterparts from other countries were well-resourced, prepared, and equipped to participate in the games.
In an interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline, the team revealed that they had printed t-shirts to use as jerseys because they had not been provided with any.
They also complained that the wheelchairs they were using made it impossible for them to play the games as expected.
Some members of Ghana’s wheelchair tennis national team were injured after being attacked by armed robbers in Nigeria.
The wheelchair tennis team had gone to Nigeria to take part in the 2023 ITF World Team Cup Africa Qualifiers, which ended on February 12.
The team had to depend on Ghc100 each for 11 days (three days on their bus journey to Nigeria), (5 days of their stay in Nigeria) and their return journey.
The team of about seven stated that they are currently looking at the store room at the Accra Sports Stadium, preparing for another tournament.
According to them, the Ministry of Youth and Sports was yet to meet them after the incident.
