The Joint Committee of Ejura Incident Victims has expressed gratitude to the legal team of #FicTheCountry for their assistance to the victims of the Ejura incidents.
They were especially grateful to lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who represented them until their compensation was paid.
In the statement issued by the compensated victims, said the lawyer continued to stand with them in the hour of desolation and need.
”Through his impassionate and unrelenting advocacy, Mr. Barker-Vormawor has ensured that our demands for justice have received a greater audience than we can ever summon on our own. It is directly through his work representing our families that the government has for the first paid compensation to persons killed by the military at a demonstration”.
The government on Wednesday presented GH1,218,897 in compensation to three victims injured in a shooting incident on June 29, 2021 in Ejura, Ashanti Region.
Nazif Nuhu, 31, received GH192,425, Louis Ayikpa, 22, received GH 347,953, and Awal Mesbawu, 17, received GH 678,519, respectively.
Ms Adelaide Annor-Kumi, Chief Director of the Ministry of Interior, presented the monies at a brief event held at Ejura Palace on Wednesday, saying the three victims were compensated based on the extent of damage caused to them.
The victims in the statement said they are also grateful to the media and also made particular mention of Rastus Asare Donkor of Multimedia.
Meanwhile, the victims have also pressed their demand for those officers and political actors who were involved to be reprimanded and for true justice to be served.
