South Tongu Member of Parliament Wisdom Kobena Woyome has described as disrespectful, inhumane, and insulting the Ghc100 given to team members of the Wheelchair Tennis team who represented Ghana in Nigeria a few weeks ago.
The MP, who is also a Ranking Member on the Sports Committee in Parliament, said when he heard each team member was given only Ghc100 as a stipend for the week’s stay in Nigeria was not only wicked but unfair treatment.
He is therefore demanding better compensation for the team members.
He said the team represented Ghana, and if they had won laurels, we would have all taken pride as Ghanaians.
He was also not happy that the team was allowed to travel by bus to Nigeria ad has served notice he would want the issue investigated by Parliament.
He has also requested that the Sports Minister and the head of the National Sports Authority appear before Parliament and answer questions.
Mr. Woyome stated that he would work hard to ensure that team members are fairly compensated for their participation in the games.
