Non-governmental organization SEND Ghana has asked the government to with immediate effect purchase vaccines to prevent the outbreak of childhood diseases.
A statement issued by the NGO described the shortage of vaccines as disheartening.
It said it would be important to purchase the vaccines to safeguard the lives of children.
“This is quite disheartening considering the importance of vaccines in safeguarding the lives of children. We ask the government to take immediately steps to purchase these vaccines and make them available to avert an outbreak of childhood diseases.
For SEND Ghana the shortage of the vaccines
is hindering the country’s goal of attaining Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals more broadly.
It said “Already, 120 children have reportedly been infected with measles in Northern Ghana, and many more across the country could suffer a similar fate.
We recommend that government retrieves monies used to purchase Covid19 vaccines that were not delivered as cited in the Auditor General’s 2022 report to purchase vaccines for children.”
