The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has admitted a motion to probe the National Cathedral Project which was filed by the Minority in Parliament.
The Private Members’ Motion was sponsored by Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah and other MPs.
Other National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislators who supported the motion include Minority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza, Dr Dominic Ayine of Bolgatanga East, Helen Ntoso of Krachi West, and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa of North Tongu.
According to the motion, a committee will be formed “to conduct an inquiry into the National Cathedral of Ghana project and all related matters.”
Following that, the committee will make recommendations to the House.
Two eminent clergymen and members of the National Cathedral project’s Board of Trustees a few weeks ago called for its immediate suspension and a financial audit.
The two – Archbishop Duncan Williams and Rev Eastwood Anaba – stated that their call is motivated by the project’s controversy.
