The immediate past Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto,
has stated that he did not resign from his position because he disagreed or had bad blood with anyone.
The aspiring presidential candidate stated that he is willing to follow the party’s rules and regulations.
He explained that the party’s rules prohibit people from remaining in office while campaigning for election.
“I am a member of the party. I follow our rules and regulations. I did not resign because I disagreed with anyone. I did not resign because I had a problem with anyone. Our rules state that a member cannot campaign for a position while still in office. That is why I resigned.
I expected the party to have successfully set a date for our presidential and parliamentary primaries by December 18, 2022, but they were unable to do so. Our party’s constitution also requires that we elect a presidential candidate by the end of the year. That’s why I resigned in the hopes that the date would be set. My opponents who want to run have taken advantage of the opportunity to campaign. Some have inquired as to why I am not on the campaign trail. I will assure my supporters that I was present on the grounds, as I have done in previous years. As a minister, I was able to interact with farmers and delegates.”
