The Police Service has so far arrested six suspects in connection with the murder of the 21-year-old soldier, Private Imoro Sherrif, in Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
The Police say the arrest of the suspects followed an intelligence-led, week-long police operation.
They were arrested separately at their various hideouts.
A statement issued by the Police explained that two persons of the suspects allegedly stabbed the soldier during an attempt to rob him of his mobile phone and his backpack.
The four other suspects’ reporter bought the stolen phone.
The two suspects identified as the alleged killers as Safianu Musah, alias Dayorgu, and Ibrahim Abdul Rakib.
Both were arrested at their hideouts in Ashaiman on Thursday, March 9, this year.
The Police later arrested two other suspects — Samuel Tetteh, alias Wiper, and Abubakar Sadick, alias Birdman on Friday.
Two additional suspects, Yussif Mohammed, and Abdul Gafaru Abdul Karim, were arrested last Saturday and yesterday, respectively.
The source said all six suspects were currently in police custody and would be put before court today.
What Police investigation uncovered
The Ghana Police Service has revealed the cause of death of the late Ghanaian soldier, Sheriff Imoro who was allegedly killed in Ashaiman.
The official police statement says the soldier died from exsanguination and laceration of major vessels of the left arm consistent with the stabbed injury.
A statement issued by the service explained that a postmortem examination was performed on the deceased’s body on 8th March, 2023, after which the pathologist gave the verbal cause of death.
The Police said after a week of a sustained intelligence-led operation, six persons have been arrested at different dates and various locations within Ashiaman and its environs for their suspected involvement in the murder of Imoro Sherrif, a soldier.
The Police received information on March 4, 2023, that a male adult had been found lying dead at Ashiaman Taifa in the Greater Accra Region.
Following this, a team of Police officers was deployed to the said location and confirmed the incident.
Police immediately commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim.
The officers cordoned off the scene and called in the specialist Police Crime Scene team to process the scene for forensic analysis.
The Crime Scene Team retrieved a number of items, including a knife with blood stains on it and a backpack. In the backpack, Police found 1 Samsung tablet, 1 Apple laptop, 1 military uniform with the name tag “Imoro”, 8 other items of clothing, as well as a Ghana card and a Health Insurance card bearing the name Imoro Sherrif.
The Military the Police disclosed was informed and they identified the body as an officer.
The body of the deceased was thereafter conveyed to a hospital for preservation and autopsy.
The Police subsequently launched an intelligence operation within Ashiaman and other strategic locations of interest to follow up on all relevant leads on the case.
The intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of the suspects.
The soldier was allegedly attacked in a suspected robbery and struggled and resisted the alleged robbers and was allegedly stabbed.
