For nearly two years, the theatre lamps at Wa West District Hospital have been out of commission.
Doctors are thus forced to perform surgeries on patients using mobile phone torches.
The situation, according to the Medical Superintendent of the Wa West District Hospital, is impeding work at the Wechiau Theatre.
“It has a significant impact on service because the lamp serves as a second eye for both nurses and doctors when we are performing an operation,” Dr. Benjamin Ameyuori explained.
According to Dr. Benjamin Ameyuori, the development has had a significant impact on healthcare delivery at the facility.
The doctor described an incident in which his team had to improvise yet again during a surgery on a man who had Gastric Perforation, a full-thickness injury of the stomach’s wall.
The healthcare officers claim to have demonstrated their commitment to saving lives, but without the support, very little can be accomplished.
“We are appealing to external bodies that can assist us. “This is a deprived community, and we have made sacrifices to be here to provide the best we can for the people,” he added.
