The National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims the government pocketed GHS30 billion in Covid-19 funds.
According to National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the government used Covid-19 to milk the state.
He claimed that the funds were squandered on election-related expenses by the government.
Delivering an address at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) auditorium on Monday, March 20, he said “Covid-19 brought the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government a windfall of about GHS30bn to manage and mitigate the impact of the pandemic. Unfortunately, this was wasted in election-related expenses.”
He stressed that Covid-19 became a “Corruption bonanza and a milking cow.”
He stated that the President assured him that there would be no reductions in investment, but Ghanaians are witnessing it.
He also said that the government had repeatedly told the people that they would not seek assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), but that they are now looking for a deal with Fujd.
All of this, he claimed, smacks of deception.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia also stated that the manufacturing sector of the economy has declined, falling from 7.9 percent in 2016 to 4.4 percent in 2022.
He added “Construction also declined from 8.4 percent in to 4.2 percent despite the government’s claim of borrowing to build roads and other infrastructure.”
