A member of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament Dr. Clement Apaak, has suggested that it would be prudent for either the Office of Special Prosecutor or the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice to probe the allegations by Prof. Frimpong Boateng that some officials at the presidency are involved in galamsey.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has ordered an investigation into the allegation made by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, Minister for Science and Technology in President Akufo-Addo’s government, that some officials in the president’s administration are involved in illegal small scale mining (Galamsney).
On Monday, March 20, the state-owned Daily Graphic reported that the police had sent a letter to Prof Frimpong-Boateng requesting his assistance in their investigations.
However, in response to this news, the lawmaker who represents Builsa South constituents suggested that the directive could be a move by this government to clear those who may have been implicated or involved in the matter.
The MP stated that the Criminal Investigations Department’s (CID) track record in investigating such cases has always resulted in the exoneration of those accused of corruption.
”The record of the CID under NPP and NADAA’S legendary tendency to clear his appointees of wrongdoing, make his order to the police to probe Prof Boateng’s claims that people in the Presidency, gov’t and party are involved in galamsey suspicious. A plot to clear, time will tell!”
He then tweeted again suggesting that the OSP or CHRAJ investigate the matter.
”I wish OSP or CHRAJ rather investigates these allegations. The record of the CID under NPP and NADAA’S legendary tendency to clear his appointees of wrongdoing, make his order to the police to probe Prof Boateng’s allegations suspicious.”
