Some Kejetia traders have spoken out against the government’s decision to close the Kejetiah market indefinitely.
The traders attempted to trade at the market today, Monday, March 20, 2023 but were denied entry because it had been closed.
According to them, the decision to close the market indefinitely will have an impact on their livelihood.
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development ordered on Friday that the new Kejetia market, which was destroyed by fire on Wednesday, March 14, remain closed until security agencies determine it is safe to reopen.
The market was closed a day after the fire to allow for investigations to begin.
During a visit by a delegation from the Local Government Ministry, Osei Bonsu Amoah, the Minister of State Designate in charge of Local Government, revealed that the Ministry will form a committee to investigate the fire incident.
He added that the market would remain closed until the security agencies and investigators completed their assessments.
But the traders have opposed saying the decision was not the best.
They have therefore appealed to authorities to reconsider their decision and reopen the market for them to trade.
