Peace Watch Ghana has given notice that it will stage a protest if the head of the Ghana National Fire Service fails to transform and modernise the service, as Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has done for the Ghana Police Service.
Founder Madam Nyonkopa Daniels stated that the service must live up to expectations because, over the years, it had failed the people when needed the most.
She lamented on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the Ghana National Fire Service has failed to distinguish itself, particularly in the management of fire outbreaks in the country.
“The GNFS boss should take a lesson from Fampare. When you examine and evaluate Dampare’s actions, you will see that he is truly working. The Chief Fire Officer must learn Dampare; if he is unwilling to learn, he should resign so that a new leader of the GNFS can be appointed.
We require a Chief Fire Officer with a vision who is willing to make the GNFS more efficient, effective, and proactive.”
She said the service is not doing its best to manage outbreaks, and its leader must rise to the occasion and stand out.
”He should go on retirement if he cannot do the job. We are giving him two months to do what is needful or we will demonstrate against him and force him to retire.”
“You are paid with tax payers’ money, and Ghanaians should benefit from your expertise. But if you are appointed and fail to deliver, you must resign and allow others with the necessary skills to take over.”
