Brigadier General Eric Aggrey Quarshie, Director General of Public Affairs for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), has stated that his unit has been praised in some quarters for invading Ashaiman weeks ago following the murder of one military officer.
General Aggrey Quarshie stated that his unit has received several phone calls thanking them for the operation. According to him, the callers told them that the action had rid the town of many misfits.
He said that they had to do so because Ashaiman had become a no-go area and was notorious for many criminal activities.
He was speaking at the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana’s Annual General Meeting and National Public Relations and Communication Summit,
“The funny thing is that some of the pictures you saw were taken by soldiers and posted on their Facebook and WhatsApp pages,”
“I can assure you when you call the military in, don’t expect normal procedures. So the best thing is, don’t do things that will bring the military there. The military is not now coming to ask you ‘oh please why didn’t you respect the police’”.
He said, “If you wanted to respect you would have respected the police and so, when I come in, the issue of respect doesn’t come in anymore. Because we want to subdue whatever issues that are coming up”.
“Most times getting people to lie down-and unfortunately that is what happened – is a way of segregating hardcore troublesome people from innocent ones. The idea is that the people who are causing the trouble will not lie down
The event was held under the theme ‘Staying Credible Through Rough Patches’.
It will be recalled that the military was condemned after some officers on Tuesday, March 7, stormed Ashiaman a suburb of Accra following the alleged stabbing to the death of Sheriff Imoro.
The military responded by stating that the action was sanctioned by the military high command.
