One of the aspiring presidential candidates in the upcoming presidential primaries of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Dramani Mahama, says one of the main reasons he has decided to return to the presidency is because the current administration has led the country’s economy into a ditch.

According to him, he would have sleepless nights if he does not return to bring his experience to bear in salvaging the ailing economy.

Mr. Mahama asserted that Ghanaians must be concerned about the current state of the economy since it could lead to a station where the next generation would have nothing to depend on.

He slammed President Akufo-Addo and described him as incompetent.

He said the government has mismanaged the economy to the point that we are unable to meet our obligation to our creditors.

“I have been President. I was a vice president. I have also worked as a minister and a Member of Parliament. I should be retiring. However, the current economic crisis we are facing and the incompetence exhibited by the current NPP government will give me sleepless nights.

I have the experience and when I see what is going on today and I sit unconcerned, people will describe me as selfish. People will wonder why an experienced person like me would be sitting unconcerned. Ghana is at a crossroads and we need an experienced person to take over.”

The NPP is destroying the future of our children. We have to rescue this country. That is why I have come to you to appeal and ask you to vote for me on May 13, 2023, when we go for the primaries,” he said in Twi while addressing delegates in the Awutu Senya West constituency as part of his tour of the Central Region.
