One of the main proponents of the anti-gay bill currently before parliament has challenged those advocating for same-sex rights to name a single benefit of homosexuality to society.
The Ningo-Prampram constituency’s MP, Samuel Nartey George, argued that homosexuality has no benefit to human life.
As a result, he has challenged anyone who disagrees with him to provide him with such a benefit.
He was responding to a question about Western countries’ threats to African countries to accept the rights of same-sex people or face aid cuts.
He claimed that the United States of America spends millions of dollars on dealing with the negative effects of homosexuality and yet expects a country like Ghana to accept such practices when the amounts spent on post-homosexuality activities account for the entire budget for Ghana’s health sector.
He stated that he could identify over ten effects of homosexuality without any defence, but no one has been able to identify a single benefit to society from the practice.
He was speaking on the telephone to Rainbow Radio 92.4FM (UK).
“How can you explain to me that it is the expansion of human rights and liberties and frontiers than an activity that costs the US taxpayer more money in a year than Ghana’s entire health sector bill for all of our treatments and health care under the national health insurance? The American government is using that to fund homosexuality. It costs them more than Ghana is spending on its entire health sector bill and you think because of enlightenment we should accept a character trait that is an aberration that will become a burden on the taxpayer and cannot be said to be good.
Show me one benefit of homosexuality. I am yet to hear anybody show me one benefit of homosexuality to society. Absolutely none! I can show you off the top of my head ten problems of homosexuality in society. Show me one benefit.”
