A campaign team member of Dr. Kwaberna Duffour, Yaw Boateng Gyan, has expressed outrage that the Presidential Library, which was supposed to honour the late Mills, is still under lock and key.
The late Mills, according to the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) national organiser, brought the NDC back into office in 2008, and such a person should not be taken for granted.
He was concerned that the project would not be completed, especially since funds were made available for it.
The library was inaugurated in July 2016 under the Mahama government but it is still under lock and key.
The inauguration coincided with the fourth anniversary of the death of President John Evans Atta Mills.
The project has a 100-seater auditorium, a 45-seater multimedia centre, seminar rooms, and a museum among other facilities.
It also has a virtual sound room that echoes the voice of Prof. Mills in his memorable speeches and images that cover his life as an academic, sports enthusiast, politician, Christian, and public servant.
The library was privately funded by the telcos and was expected to be managed by the University of Cape Coast with support from the government.
However, it has remained under lock and key for almost seven years.
Reacting to this on the campaign tour of Dr. Duffour in the Central Region, Mr. Gyan said ”it was supposed to be used for almost seven years now. So if the library is in this state, it’s very worrying because this one was built in memory of somebody who brought us to power in 2008.
”I learnt there was money for the project. So whoever is keeping that money should try and pay the contractor for him to ipen this place for the children to have access to it. It is very worrying. I am so sad today,” he added.
