Superintendent Mr.Richard Baffoe Bonnie, the Head of Technical Service at Osamkrom Prison, has pleaded with the government for additional inmate infrastructure and office space for officers.
According to him, the inmates’ house should take less than two hundred people, but due to a lack of infrastructure, it takes nearly two hundred people, resulting in overcrowding.
In addition, due to a lack of office space, the officers have converted the compound into an office space, where they always sit under the trees, which is very concerning.
He said this when the Association of Global Traditional Leaders (AGLOTLED) donated some items to the inmates.
”We do not have enough space to house the inmates. The area is overcrowded. We anticipate having more space and creating a more humane environment and accommodations for the inmates. Even though they have been imprisoned, they require a humane environment. Currently, we have nearly 200 inmates.”
Some of the items they received were tin tomatoes, drink packs, packs of bottled water, Fante Kenkey, bags of rice, bags of maize, gallons of cooking oil, and many other items.
Meanwhile, the president of the Association of Global Traditional Leaders (AGLOTLED), Nana Afia Siraa Ababio II, Queen mother of the Werempe Division-Berekum Traditional Council, stated that the donation is part of their support for the inmates.
He advised the youth to avoid negative, illegal acts and ungodly practices.
She went on to say that people in prison are not less human, but are part of society and will be reformed to be part of society.
