Seven schoolchildren are said to have drowned after a boat carrying several others crashed near Faana in Accra’s Weija Gbawe municipality.
Clement Agyi, Assembly member for McCarthy South electoral region, verified the incident occurred around 5 p.m., when the youngsters were returning home from school.
Some neighbours blamed the disaster on the Weija Dam spilling.
The bodies of seven children have been recovered from the Wiaboman River, although the precise number of youngsters on the boat is unknown.
