Drivers and road users on the Twifu Praso-Dunkwa On-Offin route have petitioned the government and the District Chief Executive for the Twifu Atti-Morkwa District to expedite the bridge construction.
According to them, the old bridge on the Pra River has been a death trap for them every day.
They claim to be terrified whenever they cross the dreadful bridge.
They requested that the District Chief Executive expedite the construction of the newly constructed bridge.
They intimated that the new bridge should have been finished and ready for use a long time ago, but they don’t know why it has taken so long.
“Because of how dangerous the bridge is, we sometimes have to park our vehicles at the back of the bridge and drop all the passengers,” a driver explained.
Meanwhile, in an interview, the District Chief Executive for Twifu Atti-Morkwa, Hon. Robert Agyeman Nyantakyi, stated that the project was 90 percent completed.
He stated that the project’s contractor has been on site since day one and has not gone.
According to him, the bridge’s delay is due to the country’s hardship, but in no time it would be opened to traffic.
He stated that the contractor is currently working on the bitumen.
“On our roads, we have about eight contractors.” There was a contractor on the road leading from Twifo Praso here to Pokukrom. There are contractors at Twifo Praso and Assin Foso, Manpoma, Dunkwao, Enyinase junction, and other areas. These projects were awarded contracts, but due to economic concerns, the majority of them have been pushed back, and I am confident that once the IMF deal is finalised, they will be paid and will return to finish their work.”
“But the major project that everybody wants to see its completion is the new Pra bridge. As a matter of fact, this contractor is a foreign contractor. He has been on site from day one and he is still there. We are about 90 percent complete. As we speak now they have started with the bitumen work on it. So in no time, it would be opened to traffic.”
