Dr. Kwabena Duffour is planning to launch a new political party to run in the 2024 presidential election, according to information obtained by Rainbowradioonline.com.
According to our sources, the former minister attended a discussion with his staff on the matter immediately after announcing his decision to withdraw from the primary.
They intend to hold several more sessions to plan the formation of the new party.
On Friday evening, Dr. Duffour announced his withdrawal from the contest.
The former finance minister stated that the reasons for which he went to court to injunct the procedure and ultimately withdrew had not been resolved.
According to him, although he was assured the challenges he had identified would be addressed, the party failed to do that.
Addressing a presser on Friday evening, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana revealed he withdrew from the race on his grievances with the processes.
“As at this time, the party has begun distributing the ballot papers to the various regions and constituencies without our involvement. I wish to reiterate my commitment to the party and grassroots, however my concerns that the party is not ready to conduct free and fair elections is evident for all of us to see,” Dr. Duffour said.
“Taking part in such an event will be acting to knowing drinking from a poisoned calabash. After consulting with my support base nationwide, I have been left with no choice but to withdraw as I cannot contest in an election blatantly flawed with irregularities regardless of all my effort to draw attention to the same.”
According to our sources, Dr. Duffour withdrew from the race because he would be humiliated, as previously said. The delegates and the rank and file will not forgive him for initiating a lawsuit.
Even said, if this attempt fails, their plan B is to start a new party. So, now that Plan A has failed, he is going to withdraw and make some explanations for founding a new party. The NPP is included in these graphs. I’m informed his camp is having a vital meeting.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Clement Apaak, the MP for Builsa South has tweeted saying the former minister is planning to form his own party to contest the 2024 polls.
“Dr. Duffour’s likely move after withdrawing from the NDC Presidential Primaries, which he would have lost miserably anyway, is to leave NDC and form a party. If he thinks this will help his NPP ally break the 8, he is in for a historic disappointment.”
