John Dumelo, an aspiring parliamentary candidate hoping to fight the parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat, has expressed confidence that he will win the election if the party organises one.
The constituency is one of several whose primaries have been postponed.
Speaking to journalists at the centre where delegates are voting to choose a presidential candidate, John Dumelo stated that he will win the election and defeat sitting MP Lydia Alhassan if she is chosen as the NPP’s nominee.
The actor and entrepreneur stated that he was not sad that the parliamentary primary could not be held, adding that he believes in the party’s leadership and how they handled the situation.
He called for unity and noted that the most important thing is for the party who work together and win the seat in 2024.
“In terms of the parliamentary, I will win hands down. You have the delegates saying it. The voters who voted in 2020 have also said the same and time me if I don’t contest the seat, they will take their votes out. I am very confident that in 2024, we can definitely win.”
Mr. Dumelo said in 2020, the party came close although some claimed the verdict was stolen.
“2024 is not about coming close, it is about winning seat. We are going to be extra vigilant. I definitely know and I am confident I will win the seat for the NDC.”
According to him, he matched the current MP boot for boot in 2020 and he would do a double of that in 2024.
He was also optimistic that former President John Dramani would emerge winner with over 96% of the votes case.
This he stated was an assurance the delegates have given the former president.
The former president is going to win hands down. What I want is that at least he is going to win by over 95% and 96%. That is what the delegates are saying. I now in Ayawaso West, I doubt if people will vote against John Dramani Mahama. But this is a democracy and you would have people vote for their reasons.”
He was hopeful Mahama would garner 99% of the votes in the constituency.
