In an interview, Mr. Samuel Afotey Otu, President of JUSAG, declared the nominee as more than qualified.

He was responding to a question about the nomination of the new CJ and the legacy of the retired CJ.

He was certain that the newly appointed Chief Justice, if confirmed, will deliver as predicted.

“We have faith in the newly appointed CJ’s abilities.” We’ve seen what she’s capable of. “We are confident that she will deliver in the same manner as the outgoing CJ,” he continued,” he told the host, Kwabena Agyapong.

On the former Chief Justice Anin-Yeboah he referred to him diligent, selfless, and kind.

According to the Association, the retired justice who rose through the ranks to become the head of the judiciary has left a great legacy that will be remembered in perpetuity.

“Justice Anin-Yeboah admired the judicial staff.” He did everything he could to get us what we wanted as employees and to address concerns that could slow us down. He was a selfless, dedicated, and industrious individual. When asked about the retired Chief Justice’s leadership, he said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, “We appreciated him for what he did throughout his service in the judiciary.”

Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo, the nominee for Chief Justice, will be vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament today, May 26.

If she is confirmed, she will become Ghana’s third female Chief Justice, following Justices Georgina Theodora Wood and Sophia Akuffo.

On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah officially retired from active service.
