A group of teachers calling themselves "Aggrieved Teachers" has demanded the government hand over their laptops under the one-teacher-one-laptop scheme or face their wrath. The teachers claimed that despite having money withdrawn from their paychecks, the bulk of them have yet to get their laptops. They want the computers to be distributed as promised, or they will take a series of activities to convey their unhappiness. Effah Kweku Tabiri, the group's secretary, claimed withdrawals were made from their professional development stipend in 2021, but numerous instructors have still to receive their laptops after two years. He also alleged that the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT) imposed this policy on them, but that they are failing to fulfil their end of the bargain. Mr. Effah went on to say that the action by the teacher unions and government two is a corrupt act, and that they are given them a two-week deadline to hand over their laptops. He stated that if nothing is done within the time frame, they will hold news conferences in each location and go to court to obtain a refund of their money plus interest. Background Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia in September 2021, launched the "One Teacher, One Laptop" initiative to facilitate lesson planning, teaching and learning outcomes. At the launch, he revealed that every teacher in the public school from the kindergarten to the senior high level would receive a computer laptop each. He announced that the government would pay 70 percent of the cost of the laptop, while each teacher pays the remaining 30 percent. The laptops were locally manufactured by KA Technologies Ghana Limited, a locally-based ICT firm. The TM1 computer laptops have a store of e-books and users could access other relevant teaching materials electronically. By: Rainbowradioonline.com/Ghana
