The Municipal NADMO Director for Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly Rev. Daniel Odei Appiah, has blamed drug addicts (junkies) for being the cause of the flood in the municipality and the metropolitan assembly.

Speaking to Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he claimed that these drug addicts collect waste from various organisations, homes and institutions and don’t dispose of them at the appropriate dumping site.

He bemoaned the fact that these people dumped the waste they collected in drains and other authorised locations.

The situation, he added, causes flooding in the area, and the NADMO office is addressing it.

”We realised that the flooding in the municipality is the result of junkies. We consistently clear these gutters and drains, but they remain clogged. Our investigation has revealed that the problem is the result of junkies. They collect waste from various homes and other locations and dispose of it in drains and gutters.

We are therefore urging residents in the area to hand over their waste to waste companies, as they will dispose of it at the appropriate waste sites.”

He stated that the municipality’s waste management companies are authorised to collect and dispose of waste.

He emphasised that residents should not rely on the amount of waste collected by these junkies because it is cheap because they end up dumping it in drains and gutters.
