For the fourth time, youth from the Kukuo community tore down sections of the Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) fence wall under construction.
The erection of the wall is part of the administration’s efforts to limit student movement.
However, because the irate teenagers continuously trashing it, finishing the project has become difficult.
During a press conference, the chairman of the wall construction committee, Alhaji Alhassan Abubakari, revealed that the committee working on the project had met with the Northern Regional Coordinating Council, the GHANASCO administration, and the contractor, as well as the chiefs, opinion leaders, and youth of the Kukuo community, to discuss the completion of the wall.
He added that the dam placed in the school came up in these negotiations, and it was agreed that they would make an opening for the locals to also have access to the dam.
He also stated that all parties concerned had reached an agreement for the project to begin.
However, as the building neared completion on Sunday, June 4th, 2023, unknown individuals demolished portions of the Kukuo cemetery in the early hours of the morning.
“It is important to state without any doubt that this agreement was sealed and the National Executive Committee levied each year group to contribute a specified amount towards this project. It is amazing, Ladies and Gentlemen, to reveal that the commitment and the alacrity shown the old students of the school were unmatched and highly spirited.
“Subsequently, to this commitment exhibited by the old students, the committee commenced its works with a pocket of agitations initially from some youth of the Kukuo community,” he said.
“The entire stretch of the wall around the Kukuo side of the wall was pulled down by unknown persons agitating that the chiefs did not ‘consult’ and engaged them before agreeing to the ‘deal’ during the 5th June meeting,” he said.
Meanwhile, six individuals were apprehended by police but later freed on bail.
He stated that those responsible for the project’s demise will be forced to pay the whole cost.
He urged REGSEC, METSEC, and its affiliated organisations to continue to support the project until it was completed.
