Vice President Fr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially filed his nomination to contest in the presidential primary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The economist and aspiring candidate filed the nomination on Friday, June 16, 2023.
Several party supporters stormed the national headquarters of the support in support of Dr. Bawumia at Asylum Down in Accra.
Wearing party T-shirts with images of Dr Bawumia and the inscription “It is possible”, and other party paraphernalia, the NPP supporters chanted songs in excitement.
Dr. Bawumia addressed the crowd after filing, saying he was encouraged by the outpouring of support from the grassroots.
”I am very humbled by this massive show of support. I would like to thank my beautiful and dear wife Samira Bawumia, and all my family, my friends and my team and all of you for the support you have given me all of these years.”
He described the moment as the happiest of his life and recounted his life from Sakasaka primary school to the present, saying it had not been an easy journey for him.
He stated that he had achieved his current position through a great deal of hard work, discipline, patience, and dedication.
He was optimistic he would emerge as the party’s presidential candidate and go on to win the 2024 presidential race to help the elephant family break the 8-year jinx.
He went on to say that he has helped President Akufo-Addo achieve his vision of transforming Ghana into a country ready for the fourth industrial revolution and that he has brought honesty, hard work, dedication, and discipline to his role as Vice President.
He said notwithstanding the economic crisis the NPP government had constructed more infrastructure than any other government in the fourth republic.
The NPP government, he claimed, has rolled out several other policies for the first time in our history, including the issuance of the Ghana card, the digital address system, the mobile money interoperability, delivery of medicine by drones, one district one factory, planting for food and jobs, Zongo development fund, agenda 111, the free senior high school policy, to mention just a few.
