The Electoral Commission (EC) has stated that it is fully prepared for the Assin North by-election on Tuesday.
According to the electoral commission, all election materials have arrived in Assin North and will be handed to the various polling locations for the by-election today.
Central Regional Director of the EC, Gladys Pinkrah speaking to the media said, “We have received all our election materials and have packaged them so early in the morning we will dispatch them to the polling centres. We have also trained our election officials, so we are going to have all the representatives of the political parties, NPP, LPG and NDC at the polling stations before we have deployment,” she stated.
Following the nullification of Mr Quayson’s 2020 parliamentary election, the Electoral Commission (EC) set the by-election for June 27.
The Supreme Court ordered that Mr Quayson’s name be removed from Parliament’s records after discovering that he held dual citizenship at the time he filed his candidature documents.
Three candidates are vying for the seat: James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
