Although the results of the Assin North by-election have yet to be declared by the Electoral Commission, members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are already celebrating.
The NDC supporters have taken to the streets in joy, proclaiming that their candidate, James Gyakye Quayson, has won the election.
So far, preliminary results show James Gyakye Quayson in the lead.
So far, he has received more than 50 per cent of the legitimate votes cast, putting him ahead of his main contender, Charles Opoku of the NPP.
So far, the NDC’s candidate has earned 17,205 votes, representing 57.54 percent of the votes cast, while the NPP’s candidate has received 11,389 votes, representing 42.18 percent of the votes cast.
These are provisional results, and the EC has stated that the winner would most likely be declared by 9 p.m.
