Lawyer Frimpong Kodua, General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), says there has been tension in the elephant party’s strongholds since voting began in the Assin North by-election.
While there is tension in all of their strongholds, the lawyer claims that there was no tension in the strongholds of the NDC.
‘Since this morning, there has been tension in all of the NPP’s strongholds,’ he told journalists. Take a look at what’s going on there. All of these locations are tense. Surprisingly, when you visit the NDC’s strongholds, the atmosphere is calm and devoid of tension.
He accused the police of failing to uphold law and order as required.
The chief scribe wondered why people would be allowed to go to a polling station and start shooting and slapping people “left, right, and centre.”
He stated that the purpose of the by-election was to allow constituents to elect their MP and that it was unnecessary for the process to be marred by violence.
”An election that people are going to vote to decide who should be their MP; does it have to turn into a war? That is what is happening.”
He also alleged that supporters of the NPP are being intimidated in their strongholds, and the NDC is scaring their members from coming out to vote.
”We are expecting the Police to do better. We don’t want it to get to a point whereby we would be forced to defend ourselves.”
