The Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament will meet with stakeholders to discuss the concerns highlighted by Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
The IPPs threatened to shut down their plants due to unpaid arrears.
The IPPs had threatened to put a stop to that move on July 1, 2023.
Chairman of the Committee Samuel Atta Akyea stated that his team will convene a critical meeting with energy sector stakeholders next week to address the concerns highlighted.
The meeting, which will include the committee, the Finance Ministry, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), and the IPPs, is intended to find a solution to the situation.
“It is crucial for the Minister of Finance, the Boards of ECG, and the committee to establish a clear roadmap for resolving this matter,” said Mr. Atta Akyea.
“We must avoid a situation where the government is pressured into taking actions that could be perceived as blackmail,” he added.
He said we are “committed to finding a solution that is in the best interests of all stakeholders.”
