The Local Council of Churches in Elmina, Central Region, in collaboration with the National Coalition for Proper Human Sexual Rights and Family Values and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, has restated its opposition to the LGBTQI+ community’s activities.
In a combined march, the groups described LGBTQI+ as vile, an abomination, and contrary to the country’s cultural, religious, and family values.
They took to the main streets of Elmina in a rally to warn the authorities not to allow homosexuality as a practice in the country.
The float, which included numerous hairdressers and beauticians, comes after a significant debate in Ghana’s parliament over an anti-LGBTQ bill.
The organisations were optimistic that the bill would be passed, putting an end to the LGBTQI+ community’s activities.
The Elmina Local Council of Churches issued a clear warning to consecutive governments not to submit to any attractive offer presented by LGBTQ fraternity leaders, regardless of the extent to which the country’s shaky economy may reach.
Apostle William Thomas Essilfie, Head Pastor of Good Shepard Bible Ministry and Vice Chairman of the Central Regional Council of Churches, described the act as demonic.
He warned the Council and other stakeholders that they would continue to oppose the community and that any administration that permits such practices would be voted out.
”LGBTQI+ is evil, and we will not allow it here. Elmina is a tourist destination, and they are welcome, but we will not tolerate their evil activities. I am informing the Chief Justice, the President, the Speaker of Parliament, and the MPs that we are praying against the abomination. They should not entertain such thoughts. We will fight back. We met with the Chief Imam and other religious leaders, who agreed that LGBTQI+ people will not be accepted.”
Some demonstrators also expressed their displeasure with the practices, emphasising that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.
They contended that if our forebears had committed such atrocities, we would not have been born to succeed them.
