A young guy was attacked when some residents in Trom, a neighbourhood of Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region, mistaking him for a thief.
The alleged perpetrators inflicted matchete wounds on him and assaulted him with other sharp items.
Arafat Bashiru, the victim, maintained that he was not a thief and had gone to answer nature’s call.
The victim stated that he had an upset stomach and went to a nearby bush to relieve himself.
However, the attackers mistook him for a thief who had gone to the neighbourhood to steal mangoes.
The assailants said that criminals had repeatedly stolen from them and that they intended to attack everyone who was found.
Bashiru was paraded through the neighbourhood carrying a mango basket.
They later abandoned him beside the road until he was rescued by the police and sent to the hospital for treatment.
The victim was injured on his hands and other parts of his body.
No arrests have been made, but Bashiru claims he will be able to identify his assailants because he knows the majority of them.
