Dr. Ernest Addison, governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), says it concerns the bank when people hold huge amounts of foreign currency in their houses.
Dr. Addison said: “It is a worry to all of us but it is a matter in court so there is not much to say about it.”
He was responding to a question about a report of the alleged theft of several sums of money, including foreign currencies, from the residence of Madam Cecilia Dapaah, the immediate former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources.
He made the remarks while addressing the.media.after.tge bank’s 113th Monetary Policy Committee meeting.
Patience Botwe, 18, and Sarah Agyei, 30, are facing charges in an Accra Circuit Court for their roles in the crime.
They are accused of stealing a staggering $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis from Madam Dapaah’s mansion in Abelenkpe, Accra, between July and October 2022.
