Political analyst William Owusu Ansah has emphasised the importance of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) holding a free, fair, and transparent super delegates conference.
He stated that the national leadership must put in place a structure that does not favour one candidate over another.
He stated that after the presidential candidate is chosen, the party must unite and rally behind the winner.
If they do not do so, he believes it will exacerbate the party’s divisions and jeopardise its chances of winning the 2024 general election.
“My recommendation to the national executive is to hold a free and fair election.” They should hold an election in which, once a winner is declared, every other contender accepts and supports the winner. There should be no underhanded tactics used against any candidate. They should refrain from favouring any candidate. The procedure must be free and transparent.”
Meanwhile, he has described Kennedy Agyapong’s comment that if the party treats him unfairly, he will travel to the United States and relax without helping the party’s campaign in 2024 as damning.
He believes that the Assin Central MP is a vital part of the NPP and was instrumental in the NPP’s victories in 2016 and 2020.
“So, if they want to break the 8-year jinx as their mantra, they should do everything they can to include him in their campaign.” As a result, the election must be free and fair. There should be no scheming against any candidate. There should be no favouritism. It should be free and fair so that anyone who loses can accept loss with dignity.”
