Nana Yaw Nyarkoa, a Ghanaian contractor, has requested that the contractor working on the Pokuase-Nsawam road compact the road before applying bitumen.
She believes that the road should be properly compacted to avoid future failures.
She said on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline that a strong foundation will withstand storms, and the same is true for roads.
The contractor explained to host Kwabena Agyapong that compaction in road construction is important because it helps to create a stable and durable surface for vehicles to drive on.
According to her, compaction increases the density of the material, making it stronger and more resistant to damage caused by heavy traffic and weather.
Furthermore, she argued that compacting the soil or aggregate materials helps to prevent settling or erosion, which can lead to potholes and other issues with the road surface over time.
”The Pokuase-Nsawam road is a government of Ghana project, not a loan facility. It’s a major thoroughfare. But what I find troubling and do not want to dwell on is that the contractor should have taken the project one step at a time. He should have completed the project in shorts. I’m pleading with him to compact the road as wide as possible before applying the bitumen. This would prolong the lifespan of the road.”
