A UK-based Ghanaian music promoter, Nana Adwoa Sika, says there is no unity among Ghanaian musicians in Ghana or the United Kingdom.
The CEO of Promogate Media claimed that because there is unity, there is no room for growth and improvement.
In an interview with Daniel Dadson on Rainbow Entertainment on Rainbow Radio 92.4Fm, UK, she stated that there is no unity on both sides, making it difficult for the industry to grow.
She questioned how musicians promote their works, the systems in place to control them, and the measures they put in place as Ghanaian musicians based in the UK.
She emphasised that growth has become difficult, and those who try to promote others face challenges.
The music promoter stated that there is no synergy because musicians in the UK have preferred teams with whom they work, whereas those in Ghana also have separate teams.
She believes that when the two countries work together to promote musicians, it will go a long way towards helping.
Another issue she identified was the decision by some musicians to leave those who had groomed them.
”This has also had an impact on the industry because promoters who groom new artists are concerned that they will leave them once they make a name for themselves.”
To address the issue, she advised people who want to support new musicians to enter into contracts with them to avoid betrayal, ungratefulness, and sabotage.
She told managers and promoters that musicians will not stay with them forever and that if they decide to leave, it should be done mutually.
”Our musicians are good; they have good songs. But in terms of promotion, production, marketing and support, that is what we are lacking. You may have a good song, but without money, you will end up nowhere. This is a big issue, and that is where we need to tackle it from.”
