All ongoing cocoa road projects will be completed but we’II not initiate new ones – COVOBOD

CEO-Cocobod

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has stated that the cocoa road projects currently underway throughout the country will be completed.

However, no new projects would be launched, according to the Board.

Speaking to journalists at the Cocoa Clinic’s 50th-anniversary symposium, COCOBOD CEO Joseph Boahen Aidoo said the cocoa roads were also intended to provide residents in cocoa-growing areas with easy access to healthcare and other important social amenities to ensure rapid development.

He was responding to media reports that all cocoa road projects had been halted due to an IMF order.

The CEO clarified that all existing projects would be completed, but no new ones would be started.

“The EU sent a team last year to do due diligence on sustainable production and when they came, a member of the delegation wanted to know why COCOBOD has been involved in cocoa roads construction. Because it is not a core business of COCOBOD and the said member of delegation insisted that we take that venture out of our equation; and, the IMF is also saying the same thing. They say that we can continue with what we are currently constructing and not start new ones”, Mr Boahen added.
