The Ahafo Region recorded ten maternal fatalities in the first half of 2023.
This was discussed at the Ahafo Regional Health Directorate’s 2023 Mid-Year Performance Review Meeting in Goaso.
The figure was described as alarming by Ahafo Regional Minister George Boakye, who spoke at the ceremony.
As a result, he has urged the Regional Health Directorate to implement measures to address the problem.
Despite the efforts of healthcare personnel, he said, the region has observed a considerable increase in maternal deaths compared to the same period last year, which is very distressing.
He emphasised the necessity for the Regional Health Directorate to strengthen its policies and actions to effectively address the surge in maternal mortality.
