The Ghana Police Service has urged the Minority to modify its protest route for September 5, 2023.
The Minority is planning a protest to demand the resignation of Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies over the bank’s Ghc60 billion loss in the fiscal year 2022.
The Caucus’ first objective was to take over the central bank’s headquarters.
However, according to a police statement, the Minority and other groups that have indicated interest in the rally should terminate their protest at the Independence Square rather than the BoG.
The statement by the Police explained that the premises if the bank is a security installation, and accordingly the protest and picketing around the installation may endanger Public Order, Public Safety and the running of essential services.
“As requested today during our engagement, the Command wishes to reiterate that you relocate the route and the destination for the picketing and therefore propose in the interest of Public Order, Public safety among others that you commence the protest from the frontage of Parliament House through Osu Cemetery Traffic Light and terminate at the Independence Square.
The Command hereby assures you of our continuous commitment to maintain law and order for the intended Public protest within the mandate of the Ghana Police Service.”
