The Minority in Parliament has stated that it would prefer Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, to receive its petition during its protest on September 5, 2023.
The Caucus intends to protest at the central bank’s headquarters to demand the resignation of the governor and his deputies following a Ghc60 million deficit in the fiscal year 2022.
It has since petitioned the police about the demonstration.
The police have requested them to change their course and end the protest at Independence Square rather than the BoG offices.
But the Minority after meeting the Police told journalists that they would want the governor to receive the petition.
The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga said “One of the key issues in our demand, when we met with the police, is that we want the governor to be the one to receive our petition and that is why we must march to the Central Bank building itself so that he can come down and receive the petition himself. And we insisted on that position, and so I believe the police will convey our demands to him and I believe that he will make himself available.”
The Minority was invited by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command on Wednesday, August 23 ahead of the September 5 protest.
